Base Model

The U2 Shuttle from OWC / Other World Computing is a U.2 drive carrier that is equipped with a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and fits into 3.5" drive bays. Inside, there are four M.2 2280 NVMe SSD slots, making the U2 Shutter suitable for media production workflows, including video editors, audio producers, photographers, graphic designers, and more. Powered via bus power, the U2 Shutter supports software-controlled RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, and 10, each of which produces performance, data redundancy, or a combination of both. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD is available. Additionally, independent volumes are bootable in macOS.

Please note that the U2 Shutte requires a compatible NVMe U.2 host enclosure, such as the OWC ThundeBay Flex 8, the OWC Helios 3S with U.2 NVMe Exchange System, or the OWC Elite Mercury Pro U.2 Dual. It is also compatible with U.2-equipped Windows systems and servers.

By utilizing a U.2 port equipped an OWC solution or a PC with an available 3.5" drive bay on both ends of the workflow, you can simply ship the compact and lightweight U2 Shuttle to the post lab where it swaps in quickly and economically.

When your resource-heavy server application has to complete thousands of operations per second, the OWC U2 Shuttle with separately-sold OWC Aura P12 SSDs has the chops to keep up. High-performance Triple-Level Cell (TLC) 3D NAND with SLC caching and a Phison E12 controller with 7% over-provisioning ensure fast and smooth access to large volumes of data. U2 Shuttles are also optimized for a strong and long working life. From running double checks on data and correcting errors to ensuring the uniform use of its flash media, Aura P12 equipped U2 Shuttles are calibrated for endurance as a factory pre-set.
